Ever since he was a kid in the 1950s Oscar liked a good lightning storm. He was not the type that shyed away from walking out into a middle of a field as the thunderheads moved in. People would watch the young man as he would try and get as close to the eye of the storm as possible. He became obsessed with lightning and every time there was a summer storm he tried to see how close he could get to being struck by lighting. He loved the thunder claps that would send people running for cover. The louder the thunder the closer the lightning.
Then one day during the middle of a wicked storm Oscar finally got as close as you could get to lighting as he was struck on the head. He fell to the ground and was knocked unconcious. A man driving by had seen Oscar get struck and called an ambulance. Ten minutes later the ambulance arrived and hauled Oscar away to emergency where he was pronounced dead on arrival. For several minutes Oscar lay dead as the doctors tried to revive him.
During these three minutes of dead something happened to Oscar where he traveled back in time nearly two hundred years to the exact point in the field where he had been struck by lighting. In his mind he saw men digging a hole into the ground. They appeared to be mining for something, perhaps gold, he thought. But as he looked closer they appeared to he hiding something in the ground. Then just as Oscar was about to get a look at what they were hiding he came back from the dead and opened his eyes on the operating table. The doctors stepped back in horror as Oscar opened his eyes.
For nearly a week Oscar stayed in the hospital undergoing tests and recovery. Once he got out he went back to live on his acerage with his parents and then one night he was watching television and a thunderstorm emerged in the distance. As the storm grew the thunder became louder. Then there was a flash of lightning and the thunder whacked and the television blew up as the antenna atop the house had been hit. He blacked out and traveled back in time inside the mental screen of his mind. He once again saw the men going down the tunnel carrying something. He followed them into the tunnel. The men carried the trunk through a series of labyrinths and then... Oscars mind came back into the present.
He sat there forgetting what had happened. Then a year later he was out walking his dog and a storm creeped up behind him. There was a flash, then a whack as a microwave tower was struck only meters in front of him. Again the thunder and lightning caused Oscar to travel back in time in his mind and once again he was in the tunnel where the two men were carrying the trunk and they were just about to open it and Oscar snapped back into the present.
But this time he remembered where he had traveled back in time and he walked back to the well in the field where he had been originally hit by lightning. He decided he would crawl down the well to find what the men in his time travels had put in the well.
Then just as he was stepping into the well there was another flash and clap of thunder striking him on the head.
This time he was not so lucky.
