Josef Stepanik was a man that was born in the former Czechoslovakia and had immigrated to Canada as a young boy with his parents. He did this at the difficult age of five. Back home he had already automatized several languages from his region but now upon his arrival to Canada he had to learn another language that was very foreign to him, a language that had no relation to any Slavic languages. His parents also did not know a word of English which made it a very rough transition for the family. Josef struggled in school and was held back several times until he caught up in the English language. He felt isolated and lonely because he could not communicate with any of the other children. He started off as an outsider and remained an outsider for the rest of his life. Josef was a handsome boy and many girls were attracted to him but his accent scared them and they knew he came from a different world and didn't quite fit in. Josef yearned to go back home where he could go back to a world the was familiar.
During his teens Josef became very interested in fortune telling and crystal gazing and he spent all of his free time reading about it in theory and in application. He talked to his mother who was from a gypsy background about the possibility of him becoming a fortune teller. She knew that he was sincere and she had done some crystal gazing in the past; his grandmother was crystal gazer as well. For three months she trained Josef in the fundamentals of the trade. Josef caught on quick and soon they had clients over at their house to have their fortune's told. Josef then started to become obsessed with the craft and would spend almost all of his money that he made on buying rare and expensive crystal balls from all over the earth. Within a matter of a year he had over 2000 crystal balls. His mother warned him about buying too many crystal balls as they would confuse him because he would not know which one to use.
She was right as the clients would come in to see Josef and he was indecisive, not knowing if he was using the correct crystal ball. His mother told him that he was the key to seeing visions and the crystal ball was nothing more than a visual screen to see his visions, but he did not remember which one was his original ball as they all looked the same. His business started to fail because his visions became more and more inaccurate. He was convinced that he was losing his powers.
He decided to close the business for a while as he would try and figure out which was his original crystal ball. Days turned into weeks and then into months as Josef tried to figure things out. But every time he looked into any of the balls all he could see was a vision of himself looking into the crystal balls. Blinded by his obsession, little did Josef know that when he was looking into the crystal ball he was seeing a vision of his future.
