Kathryn was a young girl, the age of nine to be exact and she had never been to a graveyard before. Funeral proceedings had just finished at the church and her family made their way by walking across the church yard to the adjacent graveyard. As they entered through the gates, the young Kathryn felt that she was entering into another dimension. She hoped that while in the graveyard she may get the fortunate opportunity to see a ghost which was something that she believed in. Kathryn watched as the body of her grandfather was lowered into the ground and several men with shovels tossed the earth back into the dug out plot. It took no more than fifteen minutes and that's when she knew that her grandfather was no more. The priest said his final prayers and she looked down at the freshly turned dirt that was over her grandfather's body and she noticed that the dirt was uneven, so she walked on the dirt to even it out with her hand. The priest stopped his prayer and turned to the girl and said, "Never walk on the grave of the deceased, especially one that has recently been buried."
Kathryn was frightened with the priests tone and the look in his eyes. The funeral ended and that night Kathryn could not get the image of the priest out of her head. She kept hearing his voice over in her head saying, "Never walk on the grave of the deceased."
That night she didn't fall asleep. The next day at school she dozed off a couple of times but it was at night that she could not slumber at all.
Her parents became increasingly concerned after several days because the girl had become ragged. They took her back to the priest and he said that she had disturbed the sleep of her dead grandfather by stepping on the dirt overtop of his body. He told the parents that the phrase, "May He Rest In Peace" was on his tombstone for good reason. It was so he could rest in eternal peace, but by stepping on his grave she had upset his sleep and he was angry at her and was punishing her by giving her insomnia. The priest offered the cure of having Kathryn sleep over top of a warm oven to drive away her grandfather's sleep demon. After several nights of sleeping overtop of the oven it did not work, the young Kathryn was still plagued by her grandfather's sleep demon.
The family became increasingly concerned that Kathryn may never sleep again. Then one night, almost a month after her grandfather's death Kathryn fell asleep. Twelve hours later her parents went to wake her but she wouldn't wake. Kathryn was breathing but unconscious. They called the priest and he came immediately, he tried to wake her through a series of prayers but to no avail.
Kathryn woke up seventy five years later and opened her eyes for only a split second. She then died and was buried next to her grandfather. His sleep demon entered her coffin one night and preventing her from resting in eternal peace.
