Slowly, I relaxed my mind and body into the trance-like state. I sucked in as much breath as I could and then held it for a split second only to slowly hiss it out through my teeth. After ten breaths in this fashion I began to focus on each body part, starting with the top of my head and working my way down, with the goal of releasing tension from each part. My breathing that was once so deep was now comparatively shorter and more shallow.
I leaned back in my chair under the shade of an oak tree and I fixated my eyes to a point off in the distance and slowly my eyes became tired and droopy. My breaths grew deeper and soon my head nodded off and I slipped into a hypnotic trance.
I waited outside of his office for nearly half an hour as he was late coming back from lunch. This was the first time I had ever been to see a hypnotherapist and I was extremely nervous. I was going to see him for a couple of sessions for him to teach me the fundamentals of hypnotherapy. After these couple of sessions I hoped I would be able to hypnotize myself into a trance and form my own hypnotic suggestions.
