The Three Fingered Ghost

​I had just woken up from a nightmare that was too horrible to remember. I sat on the edge of my bed trying to recall what the nightmare was about but realized that the memory had faded. Still, the lingering after effects of it plagued me as my heart raced and I shivered in a cold sweat. I took my pulse on my wrist but it was too quick to count so I just let it be and stood up to head to the washroom in the basement. I looked at the clock and it was 2:30 a.m. I had only been asleep for 45 minutes. 

​I shook my head and carefully made my way to the stairs and just as I started down the steps I saw a light flashing from the basement. I didn't think much of it because I thought that I had left the television on. But as I turned the corner at the bottom of the stairs I realized that it was not the television. It was a light coming from the washroom. I looked down the hallway and suddenly the light went off and everything was black. It took my eyes several seconds to adjust to the darkness and then the light flashed on again, but it was so brief that I could not get a good look at who was flicking on the light in the washroom. Then there was another flash and this time I was able to make out a vague impression. It looked like a child that had a big head that was triangular in shape. The figure was no more than four feet tall and was holding up its hand.

Then came another series of light flashes from the washroom. This time I was able to get a much better look at the strange four foot creature. The skin color of the creature was a yellowish green and the hand that they held up only had three fingers and these three fingers were in the shape of a pitchfork. I began to move down the hallway closer to the washroom and I could see the outline of someone standing in the dark. I called out to the person but there was no response. I continued my path towards them and then as if they were giving off a warning, the lights were flashed on and off in rapid fire succession which temporarily blinded me. The hallway went black again and all I could see were big yellow orbs floating around in the dark. Finally I had made it to the washroom and snapped on the light but there was no one there, but in behind the shower curtain I could see the silhouette of the four foot big headed creature with pitchfork hands. I tore open the shower curtain but there was no physical person. The only thing that was there was the shadow of the four foot  creature on the back wall of the shower. I  turned on the shower to maximum hotness and sprayed the shadow of the four foot creature with the scorching hot water and watched it slide down the wall and finally slip down the drain, the whole time waving good bye to me with its three pitchfork fingers.
